Hardwood Floor Finishes

There are two types of hardwood floor finishes.
  • Surface Finishes: Used to add a clear coat finish on the surface of your Hardwood floor. This coat acts as a protective finish, that resist scratching, denting and cracking. Surface finishes are made specifically from a polyurethane solvent, which is the most common finishing coat in the Hardwood Flooring industry.
  • Penetrating Finishes: Used to add a matte and stain finish on the surface of your Hardwood floor. The Hardwood surface is given a grainy feeling that truly captures the eye. What makes the penetrating finish unique is it's ability to absorb within the entire top layer of the Hardwood.

  • Hardwood Floor Finishes with Urethane

    Oil Based Urethane: The most popular finish on the market. Using this finish will give your floor that extra bit of glow. Oil Based Urethane will accentuate the tone and color of your hardwood flooring. This finish has the capability of giving your floor a healthy and energetic vibe. The secret behind Poly Urethane is that it uses various different types of finishing coats to gain this effect. Each finishing coat will take about 8 hours to dry. Be sure to keep the newly finished room well ventilated from any fumes that the oil based urethane may produce.
  • Water-Based Urethane: This finish is ideal for those who are looking to make the job fast and easy. Very easy to apply and fast to clean up, Water based urethane only takes about two to three hours to dry up and is less toxic than other finishes. If it spills on anything other than the Hardwood flooring, it can be easily cleaned up with soap and water. We recommend Water Based Finishes for those who live in colder climate conditions.
  • Moisture Cured Urethane: This finish is a type of polyurethane that is mixed with a more moisture resistant solvent. This type of finish is meant to protect your hardwood floor from high traffic areas (home or office) and areas of high moisture/humidity (bathroom or basement).
